Best Refillable Pod Kits in Ireland: A Practical Buying Guide
By Vapepoint Team - 03/10/2026 - 0 comments
Walk into any vape shop and the wall of pod kits can feel overwhelming. They all look similar, the names make little sense and every box promises great flavour and long battery life. So how do you actually choose the best pod kit for you?
We have helped thousands of customers across Ireland make that decision, and the same handful of questions come up every time. This guide answers them honestly, explains the jargon and finishes with a few kits we recommend depending on how you vape. No hype, just what matters day to day.
What is a pod kit?
A pod kit is a small rechargeable vape made of two parts: a battery and a pod. The pod holds the e-liquid and usually contains the coil, the little heating element that turns liquid into vapour. When the coil wears out or the flavour fades, you throw away the pod and fit a new one. The battery stays with you for months.
Pod kits come in two main styles:
- Refillable pod kits, where you fill an empty pod from a 10ml bottle of e-liquid.
- Prefilled pod kits, where you buy sealed pods that are already full and simply click them in.
This article focuses on refillable kits, because they offer the most freedom and the lowest running costs. If you would rather never touch a bottle, have a look at our guide to prefilled pod systems instead.
Why choose a refillable pod kit?
There are three big reasons people move to a refillable kit.
Lower cost over time
A 10ml bottle of e-liquid fills a 2ml pod around five times. Even with the e-liquid tax introduced in 2025, that usually works out cheaper per day than prefilled pods or disposables, especially if you vape a lot.
More choice
With a refillable kit you can use any compatible e-liquid in any flavour and strength you like. You are not tied to the flavours one brand decides to make in pod form.
Less waste
You only replace a small pod every week or so, rather than a full device. With the disposable vape ban coming, refillable kits are also a future proof choice.
The terms you need to know
MTL and DTL
MTL stands for mouth to lung. You draw the vapour into your mouth first and then inhale, just like a cigarette. DTL means direct to lung, where you breathe the vapour straight into your lungs like a deep breath, which produces bigger clouds. Almost all pod kits are designed for MTL vaping, and that is what most ex smokers prefer.
Coil resistance
Measured in ohms. For pod kits you will usually see numbers between 0.6 and 1.2 ohms. Higher resistance coils (around 1.0 ohm and above) give a tighter, cooler draw that suits nic salts at 10 to 20mg. Lower resistance coils produce more vapour and work better with lower nicotine strengths.
Auto draw and button fire
Auto draw kits fire when you inhale, exactly like a disposable. Button fire kits need you to press a button while you inhale. Many modern kits offer both.
Adjustable airflow
A small slider or ring that lets you make the draw tighter or looser. It sounds minor, but it makes a big difference to comfort, and we recommend it for anyone new to refillables.
Battery capacity
Measured in mAh. A typical pod kit battery is somewhere between 400 and 1000mAh. For most people, a battery around 700mAh or more lasts a full day.
How to choose the right pod kit
Ask yourself these five questions before you buy.
- Are you coming from cigarettes or disposables? Choose an MTL kit with auto draw and a coil of about 1.0 ohm. It will feel familiar straight away.
- How much do you vape? Heavy vapers should look for a bigger battery and pods that are easy to buy in multipacks.
- Do you want to adjust things? If you like to tweak the draw, look for adjustable airflow. If you want zero fuss, go for a simple auto draw kit.
- How careful are you? Top fill or side fill pods are easier to fill without spilling. Leak resistant designs matter if the kit lives in your pocket.
- What is your budget for running costs? Check the price of replacement pods or coils, not just the kit. That is where the real cost lives.
Our recommended refillable pod kits
Aspire Gotek X: best for beginners
The Aspire Gotek X is one of the easiest kits we sell. It is light, has auto draw, a clear pod so you can see your liquid level, and replacement Gotek X cartridges are easy to find. If you are moving from disposables and want to try refilling for the first time, this is a very safe bet.
Suorin kits: best for style and portability
Suorin made some of the first modern pod kits and still do it well. Our Suorin kits are slim, pocket friendly and give a smooth, satisfying MTL draw. Matching Suorin cartridges keep running costs sensible.
Prefer not to refill at all?
Kits like the IVG Pro 10K, Lost Mary Nera and SKE Bar 15K use prefilled pods but still have a rechargeable battery you keep. Browse the full prefilled pod kit range if that sounds more like you.
Picking an e-liquid for your pod kit
Most pod kits work best with nic salt e-liquid. Nic salts give a smooth throat hit even at higher strengths, which is why disposables use them. Good options include ELFLIQ, MARYLIQ and IVGLIQ, all of which taste very close to the disposables from the same brands.
Not sure which strength to choose? Our guide to nic salt vs freebase e-liquid explains how to pick between 10mg and 20mg.
How to get the best from your new kit
- Prime every new pod. After filling, let it sit for five to ten minutes so the cotton soaks fully. Skipping this is the number one cause of a burnt taste.
- Do not overfill. Leave a small air gap at the top of the pod to reduce leaking.
- Take gentle puffs. Pod kits reward slow, steady draws rather than hard pulls.
- Change the pod when the taste fades. For most people that is every five to ten days.
- Charge safely. Use a proper cable and follow our battery safety advice.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a pod last?
Usually five to ten days, depending on how often you vape and how sweet your e-liquid is. Very sweet liquids wear coils out faster.
Can I use any e-liquid in a pod kit?
Most pod kits are designed for 50/50 nic salt liquids. Very thick, high VG liquids can struggle to soak into small coils.
Why is my pod leaking?
The usual causes are overfilling, a cracked pod, a worn coil or pulling too hard. Our vape troubleshooting guide covers the fixes.
Is a pod kit better than a disposable?
For most people, yes. It costs less over time, creates less waste and lets you choose your own flavours and strengths.
Still not sure?
The best pod kit is the one that suits the way you vape. If you would like a second opinion, send us a message with what you vape now and how often, and we will recommend a kit and a liquid to match. Orders placed before 2pm are dispatched the same day, and delivery is free on orders over 49 euro.
Our products contain nicotine, which is a highly addictive substance, and are for adults aged 18 and over only.
