What is a prefilled pod vape?

A prefilled pod vape is a two part system. The first part is a rechargeable battery, sometimes with a small screen showing battery and liquid levels. The second part is a sealed pod that comes already filled with e-liquid and has its own coil built in.

When a pod runs out, you pull it off and click in a new one. You never have to touch a bottle of liquid, change a coil or adjust any settings. It feels almost exactly like a disposable, but you keep the battery and only replace the pod.

• Prefilled pods are sealed and ready to go. Very convenient, slightly higher running cost.
• Refillable pods are empty and you fill them from a bottle. Cheaper to run and more flavour choice, but a little more hands on.

What do 10K and 15K actually mean?

This is the most misunderstood part of prefilled pod kits. The number refers to the manufacturer's estimate of total puffs, so 10K means roughly ten thousand puffs and 15K roughly fifteen thousand.

In Ireland, EU rules limit any pod or tank to a maximum of 2ml of nicotine e-liquid. That means the compliant versions of these kits reach their headline number across the pods in the box or across a combination of pods and refills, rather than in one giant sealed tank. Versions with huge single tanks that you might see online from other countries are not legal here.

Puff counts are also estimates made under test conditions. Longer or harder draws use more liquid, so your real number will depend on how you vape. Think of it as a rough guide rather than a promise.

Which prefilled pod kit should you choose?

How to change a prefilled pod

1. Wait until the pod is empty or the taste fades. A sudden burnt or weak flavour is the usual sign.
2. Pull the old pod straight out. Most kits use magnets or a simple push fit, so no twisting is needed.
3. Remove the silicone plugs from the new pod, both on the mouthpiece and at the base where it connects to the battery.
4. Click the new pod in firmly until it sits flush with the battery.
5. Take a couple of gentle puffs to get the liquid flowing before your first full draw.

That is it. The whole process takes about ten seconds, which is a big part of why so many people stick with prefilled systems.

What does the screen show?

Many newer kits have a small display. Usually it shows two things: the battery percentage and an estimate of how much liquid is left in the pod. The liquid reading is calculated from how long you have vaped rather than measured directly, so treat it as a guide. If the flavour starts to fade before the screen says empty, trust your taste and change the pod.

Tips to get the most from your pods

• Do not chain vape. Long, back to back puffs overheat the coil and shorten pod life.
• Keep the battery charged. A low battery can make the flavour weaker. Top it up before it is completely flat.
• Store spare pods upright in a cool place, away from direct sunlight.
• Check compatibility. Pods are brand and model specific. IVG Pro pods only fit IVG Pro devices, and so on.

Prefilled pods are sealed and designed to be replaced, not refilled. Trying to open them usually causes leaks.

How long does the battery last?

Most kits last a full day of normal use on one charge. Heavy vapers may need a top up in the evening.

Will prefilled pods still be sold after the flavour rules change?
